Treaty of Versailles (jun 28, 1919 – mar 1, 1936)

Description:

After Germany’s surrender- due to loss of lives and supplies, the Big 3 (France, United Kingdom, United States) made an agreement that would have to be abided by called the Treaty of Versailles. Germany had no choice but to sign it which was a cause of it. Among other rules, it passed complete blame to Germany for WWI as well as large reparations to the allied nations as payment for damage- sustained land. After the treaty was put into place, Germany was left quite defenceless, with large sums to pay and reduced amounts of weapons (submarines, battleships etc.), they struggled immensely until Hitler came to power. He began to violate the treaty of Versailles and remilitarizing the Rhineland.
