Description:
When the roman empire had split into two the eastern Roman Empire became known as the, Byzantine Empire. At this time most of eastern and southern Europe was controlled by the Byzantine empire. The Byzantine Empire's capital city, Constantinople, was one of the largest and wealthiest cities.
