California Gold Rush (jan 24, 1848 – jan 24, 1855)
Description:
The California gold rush was significant because it greatly assisted with California's population increase. The gold rush is has been credited with changing California's demographics and speeding up its statehood. By 1855 California's population has almost doubled and this increase in people led to the many more cities and towns being built. Since many of the people had come from other countries, hoping to get rich, the state became more of a diverse place, rather than just having Native Americans as the population.
