Spanish- American War (apr 21, 1898 – aug 13, 1898)
Description:
America's support for the ongoing fight against Spanish rule by the Cubans and Filipinos, and the unexplained explosion of the U.S.S. Maine battleship at Havana Harbor. America's success in the war produced a peace treaty compelling the Spanish to surrender claims to Cuba and cede control over Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines to the United States. The U.S. even occupied Hawaii's independent state during the war.
