Description:
There was a concern that communists would try to use the film industry to spread communist propaganda
As a result, in 1949, 41 Hollywood directors, producers and writers were called in for questioning about communism in Hollywood
19 were named communists and were ordered to appear before HUAC
10 refused to answer anything and pleaded the First Amendment
All 10 were jailed for 1 year for contempt and were blacklisted
Most of them never worked in Hollywood again
Affected the industry as it saw an increase in production of anti-communist films
