Piaget's Preoperational (sep 29, 2005 – sep 29, 2010)

Description:

This is when kids start seeing things with words and images as opposed to logical reasoning so it allows the child to grow in its knowledge. This stage includes milestones such as pretend play, egocentrism, and language development. Pretend play is when kids use objects, actions, or ideas to represent other actions and objects. When I was a child I would go out in my back yard and pretend I was in the jungle and I would use a paper towel roll as a sword and fight my "enemies." Egocentrism is an inability of a child to see any point of view other than their view. An example of this is when you have younger siblings hitting their older ones thinking it's funny and not being able to understand that it's actually hurting them and thinking it's fun for them. Language development is the process that children come to learn and understand and communicate language during early childhood. This is when children start saying things like "meh" and the mom thinking they are saying momma. In the picture, it shows a kid using different objects and pretending like they are real and alive but they aren't.
