Punic Wars (mar 12, 264 BC – aug 1, 146 BC)
Description:
The Punic Wars were 3 wars fought between Rome and Carthage, a place located in Africa which used to control Sicily. Rome wanted Sicily, and decided it was worth a war for. In the first war Rome invaded Sicily and won after 23 years, which set the stage for the second war. Carthage’s general Hannibal decided to attack through the alps, which completely surprised Rome. Hannibal destroyed Rome in almost every battle, until he had to turn back and was trapped at the battle of Zama. The third war was basically just a slaughter, Rome killed everyone and burned the city to the ground. The result of the Punic wars was that Rome became the most powerful force in the Mediterranean by far, it didn’t just contribute to Rome’s rise it put them at their peak.
