Description:

Political - Charlemagne ("Charles the Great") was Charles Martel's, the founder of the Carolingian dynasty's, grandson. Under his rule, the Frankish kingdom reached its high point. His realm included most of modern France and lands that form Belgium, the Netherlands, and southwestern Germany when he inherited the Frankish throne. He built a capital at Aachen, and relied on aristocratic deputies, while travelling on horseback across his realm.
