First and Second Arab Siege (jan 1, 674 – jan 1, 718)

Description:

Political - The Muslims blockaded Constantinople in 674-678 and again in 717-718. The expansion of Islam threatened Byzantium after the 7th century, and after Muhammad's death, Arab warrirs conqured the Sasanid empire in Persia and large portions tof the Byzantine empire. Constantinople was able to resist because of their advanced miitary technology. Using a weapon called "Greek fire," they Byzantine were able to retain its hold on Anatolia, Greece, and the Balkan region.
