Al-Khwarizmi (jan 1, 780 – jan 1, 850)
Description:
Muhammed ibn Al-Khwarizmi, sometimes called the Grandfather of Computer Science, made many mathematical advancements.
REASONS WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT:
1) He brought Arabic numerals to the west, the same base number system we use today
2) He developed algebra, publishing a book with many examples of quadratic equations, along with examples. We use algebra very often in computer science today
3) He came up with the concept of Algorithms, sets of instructions that could be followed to efficiently solve a problem. Algorithms are now used by computers when running programs.
