Description:
1870: abandoned his religious practices and enrolled in school to study natural sciences
1883: presented his doctor’s thesis on the subject of “The centrifugal nerves of the heart”
1890: invited to head the Department of Physiology at the Institute of Experimental Medicine which is a position he remained in for the next 45 years.
1904: Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his advancements in research
