Iconoclasm (jan 1, 726 – jan 1, 843)

Description:

Culture - Iconoclasm was initiated by Byzantine emperor Leo III. After Byzantium's long history of producing icons of religious figures, the emperor was convinced that reverence of these images was sinful, and he imposed on a policy of iconoclasm. It revved riots and protests because of the popularity of icons and debates about iconoclasm went on for longer than a century, but the policy was abandoned in 843.
