Description:
Political - Named after its founder, Charles Martel, the Carolingian dynasty was at its peak under Charlemagne's rule. Charlemagne initiated the missi dominici, which was a group of imperial officials. The Carolingian empire fell because Louis the Pious, Charlemagne's only surviving son, lost control of local authorities.
