JOHN C. CALHOUN (mar 18, 1782 – mar 31, 1850)

Description:

John C. Calhoun was a South Carolina congressman. He partook in the creation of the Second Bank of the United States, and the initiation of the US into the War of 1812 with Britain. He believed in the right to own slaves, and others rights to do the same. He was against the Compromise of 1850 that wanted to limit the use of slaves during the time period of westward expansion, and was the the spokesman for the slave-plantation system. This system put slaves into hard labor growing and harvesting crops from day break to day end.
