Era of Revolutionary Journalism (jan 1, 1810 – jan 1, 1900)
Description:
1810 began the era of revolutionary journalism within Mexico. The first paper to arise in this new era was “El Despertador Americano” The first issue addressed to all the inhabitants of American of the wrongs suffered by the Mexicans at the hands of Spaniards and Europeans, and called for rebellion.
The number of newspapers took off and the journalism industry prospered.
During the wars on independence after 1810, newspaper established a pattern of political combativeness that would last into the latter part of the century and in some cases, beyond, despite government attempts to control them.
