Ishiyama Honganji-War (aug 1, 1570 – aug 1, 1580)

Description:

One of the late periods of conflict in the Sengoku Period, this ten year long campaign was launched by the forces of Oda Nobunaga in an attempt to wipe out the warrior monks of Ikko-Ikki situated in the Mikawa Province.

These monks had been drawn into conflict by an alliance led by Ashikaga Yoshiaki, whom was wary of the strength of the Oda clan, so he had devised an "Anti-Oda Coalition" which mainly comprised of the remaining factions that were adjacent to the Oda.

The monks of Ikko-Ikki were the last areas that Nobunaga had needed to conquer if he were to unite all of Japan, and this campaign had served him by taking over some of the monk's last strongholds of Ishiyama Honganji and Nagashima.

On August 1580, the leader of the Ikko-Ikki Kosa would surrender to Nobunaga, making him to be the first major casualties of Ashikaga Yoshiaki's coalition
