Kamakura Period (jan 1, 1185 – jan 1, 1333)

Description:

The Kamakura Period is the time of the rule of the Kamakura Shogunate founded by Minamoto no Yorimoto.

This period of time is well known for the creation of the samurai, a warrior caste and the beginning of a feudal system in Japan.

The period would end as the they would be overthrown by Emperor Go-Daigo with the aid of Ashikaga Takauji, Nitta Yoshisada and Kusunoki Masahige; beginning what would be the very short-lived Kenmu Restoration period
