The Onin War (jan 1, 1467 – jan 1, 1477)
Description:
The Onin War was a succession crisis over the Ashikaga Shogunate between the two claimants Ashikaga Yoshimi and the infant Ashikaga Yoshihide (whom his mother acted as his regent).
Yoshimi had been able to rally the Hosokawa Clan to his aid while the Yamano Clan would come to the aid of Yoshihide, with battles erupting in the two clans territory and Kyoto itself.
This war would see the destruction of both clans in 1473, the same year in which Yoshihide had successfully become the next shogun after his father. The war would be definitively ended in 1477 along with Yoshimi's political aspirations
