Nanboku-Cho Period (Northern and Southern Courts Period) (jan 1, 1336 – jan 1, 1392)

Description:

During the short restoration of the Imperial Court by Emperor Go-Daigo, his second son Prince Yutahito (also known as Emperor Komyo) had claimed to be the Emperor in the city of Kyoto while his father remained in Yoshino.

This event had split Japan into two sides who favored either. and would last until Go-Daigo would surrender his throne to Komyo 56 years later.

(Emperor Komyo had no real power as he was under the guise of the Ashikaga Shogunate).
