Ashikaga (Muromachi) Shogunate (aug 11, 1336 – sep 2, 1573)
Description:
After the fall of the Kamakura Shogunate and the restoration of Imperial rule in Japan under Emperor Go-Daigo. Ashikaga Takauji, a former ally of Go-Daigo would soon support his second-born son Prince Yutahito (Emperor Kyomo), which would split the country into the Nanboku-Cho Period.
(Though Kyomo had no real power over Japan as a contestant against his own father, Go-Daigo would surrender the throne to him in 1396. Japan was fully under the grip of the Ashikaga.)
The Shogunate would come to it's end on the 2nd of September 1573, as Tokugawa Ieyasu of the Tokugawa Clan would capture the capital city of Heian-Kyo as well, as the shogun Ashikaga Yoshiaki with it, Ieyasu would soon take sole control to install his own clan as the next shogunate.
