Reformation (jan 1, 1517 – jan 1, 1648)

Description:

This era began with the original Reformer Martin Luther, and his posting of the 95 theses on the door to the church of Wittenburg. He attacked certain proposed truths such as indulgences and purgatory. Sparking a rebellion against their teachings, he was the beginning of a movement against the Catholic church and toward Protestantism. Many others also rose up independent of Luther, such as Zwingli. These ideas were able to spread fast because of the Gutenberg press which allowed everyone to see Luther's works.
