George Orwell (1903-1950): Best known for two novels, Animal Farm (1945) and Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949).

James Joyce (1882-1941): Most important works were the short-story collection Dubliners (1914) and the novels A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (published in book form in 1916), Ulysses (1922), and Finnegans Wake (1939).
