Queen Elizabeth's Reign (jan 31, 1558 – apr 28, 1603)
Description:
Queen Elizabeth was a Protestant, and lead a Protestant nation. A new Act of Supremacy named her as the "only supreme governor of this realm, as well as in all spiritual or ecclesiastical things or causes, as temporal." She was the "supreme head of the church." The created a Book of Common Prayer, and issued the Thirty-Nine Articles, which defined theological issues midway between Lutheranism and Calvinism. She was a moderate Protestant.
Catholics and Puritans didn't like her. Mary queen of Scots was a threat, but she was ousted by Calvinists.
Very smart foreign policy, and avoided alliances that would force her into war.
