Hundred Flowers Campaign (nov 1, 1956 – jul 1, 1957)
Description:
Mao lets the people of China criticize the government (via letters). At first the concerns voiced are small and safe, and he begins to egg people on to submit deeper/bigger worries. However, the people start to do exactly what he asked for - and Mao is not happy. He then decides to say that the plan's purpose was to root out "bad thinkers" all along, and many are persecuted.
