The Peasants' Wars (jan 18, 1524 – nov 18, 1525)

Description:

Peasants had not been affected by the economic developments of the time, the local lords abused the peasants, and there was a new demand for taxes that they did not want to pay. They revolted, and were inspired by Thomas Muntzer who said, "Strike while the iron is hot!"

Martin Luther did not support these revolts because he believed that the state and its rulers were chosen by God and given their authority by God. He believed that it was the princes' duty to put down the revolts. Luther was a social conservative (?)
