Influx of the French-Canadians (dec 1, 1860 – jan 1, 1900)

Description:

Many French-Canadians realized that they could take their large families who might be a burden on a farm to Lowell. There were so many open mill jobs in Lowell that everyone in the family could find work if they were old enough. In this time period, roughly 600,000 French-Canadians immigrated into New England, many who settled in Lowell. By 1905, the French-Canadians had outnumbered the Irish and became the largest ethnic group in Lowell.
