The most influential Christian Humanist. He is said to have "laid the egg that Luther hatched." he believed that the church should be reformed to spread the understanding of Jesus, and return to the core philosophies of the Bible. He criticized the church, because it emphasized external religion instead of internal piety

Christian Humanists' main goal was to reform the church, and they focused on sources of early Christianity, the Holy Scriptures, and the writings of church fathers. They discovered a "simple religion that had been been distorted by complicated theological arguments.
