English Civil War (aug 22, 1642 – sep 3, 1651)
Description:
Between Parliamentarians and Royalists (Charles I, II) over the manner of England's governance. Ended with Parliamentarian victory.
Constitutionally, the wars established the precedent that an English monarch cannot govern without Parliament's consent. Parliamentary sovereignty was only legally established after the Glorious Revolution (1688).
