Vietnam War (nov 1, 1955 – apr 30, 1975)

Description:

North Vietnam wanted to unify the country under a single communist government, while South Vietnam wanted to maintain it's alignment with the West. With the support of the Soviet Union and China, North Vietnam invaded the South which was backed by the United States. After years of conflict, the United States withdrew from the war due to the casualties, cost, and the growing anti-war sentiment in America. This resulted in a full-scale invasion and defeat of South Vietnam.
