Description:

The Ingrian War was the first war between Russia and Sweden. The goal of the war was to put an ambitious Swedish Duke on the throne of the Russian empire and control Baltic Sea trade. On February 17th 1617, the Treaty of Stolbovo denied Russia access to Baltic sea trade and rewarded Sweden with the subsequent lands. The Swedish victory in this war laid the foundation for Sweden's rise to prominence in Europe.
