Shut Down - Six Degrees (jan 1, 1997 – jan 1, 2001)
Description:
At the height of its popularity, SixDegrees had more than a million users. Considered by many to be the first social media platform, it was launched in 1997 by a man named Andrew Weinreich. Based on the idea that every person in the world could be connected by six degrees, it is believed that SixDegrees was created before its time. A predecessor to sites like Facebook and Myspace, SixDegrees shut down in 2001 due to spam problems and revenue issues.
