War on Iraq lasted for eight years and was very costly. The war strengthened the hostility of the Islamic Republic towards America due to the weapons and support given to the regime of Saddam Hussien in Iraq to be used to fight against Iran. Making the expulsion of more liberal and democratic figures from power wasnow simpler for Khomeini and his allies.
