Iran-Iraq War (sep 22, 1980 – aug 20, 1988)

Description:

Iraq, wanting to capitalize on Iran's revolution, invaded Iran, in hopes of conquering territory, power, and keeping its citizens loyal. Iran, however, virtually regained all land, pushing deep into Iraq territory. The war only ended through a UN-brokered ceasefire.
