Detente (jan 1, 1967 – jan 1, 1979)
Description:
This is a period of time of eased tensions between Moscow and the West, promoted by Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger, and Leonid Brezhnev. With the end of the Vietnam War, Summits, and treaties, this was a distinct period of cooperation between the superpowers. However, some may see it as a period of time in which the U.S. showed weakness at the top, allowing for the Soviet's influence to expand.
