Iran-Iraq War (sep 22, 1980 – aug 20, 1988)
Description:
The Iran-Iraq war began in 1980 when Iraq invaded Iran in an attempt to capitalize on post-revolutionary fervor in the country. However, Iraq made limited progress and Iran regained virtually all of it's lost territory by 1982. Iran then went on the offensive until 1988, when the United Nations organized a cease fire between all parties involved, including the U.S., Soviet Union, and major European states.
