The Protestant Reformation (dec 31, 1517 – dec 31, 1555)

Description:

The Protestant Reformation started when Martin Luther posted his "95 Theses", which protested the Pope and the Church, in particular their use of indulgences. As a result, Luther was excommunicated and dubbed a "heretic" in 1921, but not before his teachings had gained traction. In 1929, Luther and his supporters went to the Confession of Augsburg, where they proclaimed exactly what the Lutheran faith stood for and believed in. During this period, faith in the Church waned throughout Europe (and in Sweden). Lutheranism spread rapidly through Sweden, with very little protest from the King. Unlike most European nations, there was not much religious strife, and Sweden was transformed from the Catholic Church to Lutheranism beginning in 1536 and officially being declared Lutheran in 1544.
