The Vietnam War (nov 1, 1955 – apr 30, 1975)
Description:
The Vietnam War was a long war that pitted the communist North Vietnam, backed by the Soviet Union, against South Vietnam, which was backed by the United States. This is one of the nastiest proxy wars to date, with over half of the casualties being Vietnamese civilians. With the withdrawal of U.S. forces in 1973, communist forces seized control in 1975 and the country was unified as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam the following year.
