Kingdom of Ghana (aug 21, 700 – feb 19, 1240)

Description:

The Kingdom of Ghana was located in what is now southeastern Mauritania and western Mali. Although it did not directly own the gold mines, the Kingdom of Ghana facilitated and controlled the gold trade in West Africa. The Kingdom of Ghana preceded the Kingdom of Mali and was pretty much the first centralized empire in West Africa. This relates to 3.2 and 3.3 because it was an empire and it had a large role in the economy of West Africa.
