The battle of Bexar The siege started Oct. 12, 1835, Battle started Dec. 5, 1835. The Texans marched down to Bexar (San Antonio) and decided to lay siege on the town. They camped outside of Bexar for a month. Most of the Texans were starting to decide to go home and come back in the spring. It was growing cold and no one really ever fought in the winter. They were all about to go home until one of the Texans stood up and said, “Who will follow old Ben Milam into San Antonio?” He convinced some people and was able to put together a group with more than 300 Texan volunteers. The advanced and started doing door to door fighting. The battle lasted 4 days, and Ben Milam died on the 3rd day. The Texans won the battle. About 150 Mexican soldiers died. This allowed them to take over and occupy the city of San Antonio de Bexar.
