Coke appeals to the health concscience (jan 1, 1981 – dec 31, 1989)

With the turn of the decade and the drastic cultural shift becoming evident in the world Coke needed to reinvent their product for the new age. One change came at the top of the company. Robert C Goizueta became the new CEO of the company. The new age showed more of an interest in fitness than pass generations. Goizueta created the first direct extension of Coke with Diet Coke. Another one of Goizueta’s new ideas was to reinvent the normal coke flavor. This new concoction was called New Coke.
While testing groups approved of the new formula. The public refused the new production of coke and pleaded for the original Coke formal to be put back into production. Eventually the original formula was put back into production. With the reinstatement of classic coke the market share for the company grew a substantial lead over its competitors.
