March to Sea (nov 15, 1864 – dec 21, 1864)
Description:
Union General William T. Sherman led some 60,000 soldiers on a march from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia. The purpose of Sherman's March to the Sea was to frighten Georgia's civilian population into abandoning the Confederate cause. They captured Savannah and gave it to Lincoln, they then burned their way through the Carolina's, Robert Lee surrendered to grant in 1865 on April. This was an example of total war (a war that is unrestricted in terms of the weapons used, the territory or combatants involved, or the objectives pursued, especially one in which the laws of war are disregarded.)
