Władysław Jagiełło (mar 4, 1386 – jun 1, 1434)
Description:
A pagan prince of Lithuania (Jogaiła), he agreed to marry Jadwiga and be baptised in exchange for the Polish crown. Poland and Lithuania became joined by a personal union.
Being a Lithuanian, he often thought of Lithuanian interests first and wasn't very popular as a Polish king. He also had to wait long for a male heir.
To secure the backing of the Polish nobles, Jagiełło had to grant them some priviledges.
As a king, he waged a war against the Teutonic Order and competed for status with the mightiest European houses.
