John F. Kennedy (jan 20, 1961 – nov 22, 1963)
Description:
His government was a modernising government but was slow to make civil rights the key element in his administration.
Due to pressure from events going on in the US, especially in Birmingham and the March on Washington, JFK submitted a general civil rights bill before he died which was pushed through by LBJ. His death helped the bill passed as it was supported partly out of respect to JFK. The bill would likely not have been brought in under normal circumstances as JFK was a Democrat so relied on the Southern white vote.
