Frédéric Chopin and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Chopin invented the concept of the instrumental ballade. His major piano works also include mazurkas, waltzes, nocturnes, polonaises, études, impromptus, scherzos, preludes and sonatas, some published only posthumously. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote several works well known among the general classical public—Romeo and Juliet, the 1812 Overture, and his three ballets: The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and The Sleeping Beauty.
