Georges Cuvier (aug 7, 1770 – may 18, 1832)
Description:
He was largely credited with developing the science of paleontology. Cuvier found that each rock layer is characterized by a unique group of fossil species. Then he suggested that catastrophes corresponded to the boundaries between the strata he studied.
