Stage 1 of Genocide: Classification (jan 1, 1960 – jan 1, 1962)

Description:

At the very beginning of the Genocide, from 1960 - 1962 there was a lot of separation / joining of provinces amongst Nigeria. Nigeria joins with Liberia and Togo in the “Monrovia Group” which advocated an extremely loose organization of African states. Northern Cameroon becomes Sarduana Province of Nigeria. Southern Cameroon ceases to be a part of Nigeria. In the year 1962, the northern people’s congress controlled the federal government, while violence in the western region forced the dominant party there, the Yoruba “Action Group”, to split in two. These examples all demonstrate different ways that Nigeria was separated or classified.
