Operation Rolling Thunder (mar 2, 1965 – nov 1, 1968)

Description:

This was a name for the bombing of North Vietnam. One target was the Ho Chi Minh trail used to supply the Vietcong with weapons and supplies. The Americans wanted to make bombing so heavy that ground troops weren't required. Though the trail did disrupt supply routes, thousands of people worked to keep them open. In addition, the casualties ORT caused, turned Vietnamese against the Americans.

By the end of ORT, more bombs had been dropped on Vietnam than were dropped on Germany and Japan in WW2. ORT had also cost America a lot of money.
