Democrtitus (jan 1, 46 BC – jan 1, 0)

Description:

In around the year 400 BC, Democritus made a theory, saying that small pieces of matter were called "atomos"- which is Greek for "invisible." He believed that these pieces of matter were in constant motion and that they stick together when they collide. He claimed that atoms combining and separating caused matter to change. He formed these theories by discussing his ideas with other philosophers.
