Battle on the senate floor (jan 1, 1856 – jan 1, 1857)

Description:

Preston Brooks attacked abolitionist Republican Senator Charles Sumner on the floor of the senate after Sumner gave an anti-slavery speech where Sumner called out South Carolina Senator Andrew Butler. This was huge in that the fight over slavery had literally been fought and had blood shed over it in our national capitol.
