Lincoln - Douglas debates (jan 1, 1858 – jan 1, 1859)
Description:
Abraham Lincoln and Democratic Senator Stephen Douglas were running for the same seat in the senate. They had many debates focused on slavery. While Lincoln didn't win the senate seat those debates put him in public spot light and helped him receive his nomination for President in 1880.
